The Beasts of Tarzan

Set ashore on an unfamiliar coast, stripped of the thin civilization that three years among white men had spread over him, Tarzan begins again. He tames the panther Sheeta and wins the ape king Akut. He captures the Wagambi chief Mugambi and turns an enemy into a comrade. Rokoff makes a fine villain: calculating, cruel, certain that a man is best struck through his wife and child. But Jane Clayton is no waiting prize. Captured and pursued, she meets each turn with her own resolve, refusing to buy safety at a price she could not live with. Around them move smaller figures who linger, chief among them Anderssen, the uncouth Swedish cook whose feigned stupidity hides something braver.

This is pulp adventure with the dial turned high — jungle rivers, cannibal villages, a blood-slicked deck under a tropic moon, spectacle over a quieter question about loyalty, mercy, and how thin the line is between the lord and the beast. It opens at the water's edge, the current already running. Step aboard and let the current take hold.
