Line by Line Learning (linebylinelearning.com) is a language-learning app for reading, listening and writing. Classic books you know and love are adapted into bilingual graded readers at CEFR reading levels, in a unique parallel-text design. Each sentence appears in the language you're learning, with your own language directly below it. The meaning is always one line away, so your eyes never have to hunt across the page as they do with traditional parallel text. Every line comes with natural-sounding audio, in a choice of voices.
It's made for book lovers learning a language, and for anyone who wants a language to become part of their life. It's for the busy person who wants a good book before bed, to relax and let the day go. And it's for serious learners looking for a method and a practice they'll keep.
How it works
- Read: every sentence appears in the language you're learning, followed by its translation. Keep translations showing, or hide them so they're only a tap away. Adjust as your level grows.
- Listen: hear each line as you read. Swipe through the story one card at a time, with audio that plays on its own or only when you ask. Set it up the way you like to read.
- Choose your level: books come in CEFR reading levels from A2 to C2, so you can pick the one that fits you for any title. Read at your level, or just above it. That's where you'll grow fastest while still enjoying the story.
- Write: keep a private journal in the language you're learning, your own, or a mix of both. Get translations and patient feedback on grammar and phrasing.
- Try before you sign up: each book has a sample you can read and listen to without an account.

Languages
Line by Line Learning works in 17 languages. From English, you can learn Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Danish, Swedish, Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Serbian, and Hungarian.
More than 75 books are available in many languages and at several reading levels. That's thousands of unique editions to read, listen, and learn. You'll find favorites such as The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Alice in Wonderland, The Mysterious Stranger, Dracula, Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, The Count of Monte Cristo, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Around the World in Eighty Days, Little Women, and many more.

Line by Line Learning runs in the web browser on computers, tablets and phones. It is free to use today; a paid subscription is planned.
