About this book

Buck lives well. On Judge Miller's California estate, among gravelled driveways and wide lawns, he is a St. Bernard-shepherd mix with the run of a warm and ordered world. Then a gardener's helper with gambling debts sells him north, and a man in a red sweater teaches him the first hard lesson of the North. "That club was a revelation," Jack London writes. It is Buck's introduction to the law of club and fang, and the beginning of a journey that strips one life away to uncover an older one beneath it.
