About this book

On a fine June morning, Clarissa Dalloway steps out to buy the flowers for her party herself. Westminster, Bond Street, the florist's doors filled with delphiniums and roses, each color burning by itself in the misty beds. The whole bright surface of London opens before her, and beneath it a lifetime of memory: her girlhood at Bourton, the suitor Peter Walsh who has just come back from India, the rapturous friend Sally Seton. "What a lark! What a plunge!" she thinks, and the day begins.
