About this book
It begins with a proposal that goes wrong. Malone, a young reporter for the Daily Gazette, kneels before the proud and lovely Gladys, only to be told she could never love an ordinary man. "There are heroisms all round us waiting to be done," she says, and with that one sentence she sends him off to find one. What he finds is Professor Challenger — a zoologist with an Assyrian-bull beard, huge hairy hands, and a temper that lands the two of them tangled in a chair and rolling down the front steps into the gutter.

Bay Hungerton, Gladys’in babasıydı ve gerçekten dünyanın en densiz insanıydı.
Mr. Hungerton was Gladys’s father, and he was truly the most tactless person on earth.
Dağınık, tüylü bir kakadu gibi görünüyordu.
He looked like a messy, feathery cockatoo.
Çok iyi huyluydu ama sadece kendini düşünüyordu.
He was very good-natured, but he only thought about himself.
Bir şey beni Gladys’ten uzak tutabilirdi.
One thing could have kept me away from Gladys.
O da onu kayınpederim olarak düşünmekti.
It was the thought of him as my father-in-law.
Bir şeyden eminim.
I am sure of one thing.
Haftada üç gün Chestnuts’a onunla vakit geçirmekten zevk aldığım için geldiğimi sanıyordu.
He believed I visited the Chestnuts three days a week to enjoy his company.
