About this book

In a grimy Seven Dials curiosity shop, a timid dealer named Mr. Cave keeps a crystal egg he cannot bring himself to sell. When he peers into it, he sees another world entirely: a plain bounded by reddish cliffs, dark birdlike shapes wheeling against a rising sun, a canal winding past mossy trees. Then one day something on the other side looks back. This is how Tales of Space and Time opens, with wonder tucked inside the ordinary, and the smell of dust closing over it again.
