About this book
In the Seeonee hills, a naked man's cub wanders into a wolf's cave, and a she-wolf named Raksha claims him against the lame tiger who wants him for prey. "The man's cub is mine, Lungri—mine to me!" she vows, and so Mowgli is raised under the Law of the Jungle, taught by the sleepy bear Baloo, defended by the black panther Bagheera, and hunted always by Shere Khan. He belongs fully to neither the wolf pack nor the world of men.

Klokken var syv om aftenen, og det var meget varmt i Seeonee-bjergene.
It was seven o’clock on a very warm evening in the Seeonee hills.
Fader Ulv vågnede fra sin dagshvile.
Father Wolf woke up from his day’s rest.
Han kløede sig og gabte.
He scratched himself and yawned.
Så strakte han sine poter, den ene efter den anden, for at vække dem.
Then he stretched out his paws, one after another, to wake them up.
Moder Ulv lå med sin store, grå snude hen over sine fire hvalpe.
Mother Wolf lay with her big gray nose across her four cubs.
Hvalpene væltede rundt og hvinede.
The cubs were tumbling about and squealing.
Månen skinnede ind i åbningen af hulen, hvor de alle boede.
The moon shone into the mouth of the cave where they all lived.
