About this book
In the Seeonee hills, a naked man's cub wanders into a wolf's cave, and a she-wolf named Raksha claims him against the lame tiger who wants him for prey. "The man's cub is mine, Lungri—mine to me!" she vows, and so Mowgli is raised under the Law of the Jungle, taught by the sleepy bear Baloo, defended by the black panther Bagheera, and hunted always by Shere Khan. He belongs fully to neither the wolf pack nor the world of men.

Bilo je sedam sati jedne veoma tople večeri u brdima Seeoni.
It was seven o’clock on a very warm evening in the Seeonee hills.
Otac Vuk se probudio posle dnevnog odmora.
Father Wolf woke up from his day’s rest.
Počešao se i zevnuo.
He scratched himself and yawned.
Zatim je ispružio šape, jednu za drugom, da ih probudi.
Then he stretched out his paws, one after another, to wake them up.
Majka Vučica je ležala s velikim sivim nosom preko svojih četiri vučića.
Mother Wolf lay with her big gray nose across her four cubs.
Vučići su se prevrtali i cičali.
The cubs were tumbling about and squealing.
Mesec je obasjavao ulaz u pećinu u kojoj su svi živeli.
The moon shone into the mouth of the cave where they all lived.
