About this book

In the Seeonee hills, a naked man's cub wanders into a wolf's cave, and a she-wolf named Raksha claims him against the lame tiger who wants him for prey. "The man's cub is mine, Lungri—mine to me!" she vows, and so Mowgli is raised under the Law of the Jungle, taught by the sleepy bear Baloo, defended by the black panther Bagheera, and hunted always by Shere Khan. He belongs fully to neither the wolf pack nor the world of men.
