About this book
In the Seeonee hills, a naked man's cub wanders into a wolf's cave, and a she-wolf named Raksha claims him against the lame tiger who wants him for prey. "The man's cub is mine, Lungri—mine to me!" she vows, and so Mowgli is raised under the Law of the Jungle, taught by the sleepy bear Baloo, defended by the black panther Bagheera, and hunted always by Shere Khan. He belongs fully to neither the wolf pack nor the world of men.

Nagyon meleg este volt, hét óra, a szioni dombok között.
It was seven o’clock on a very warm evening in the Seeonee hills.
Farkas Apó felébredt a nappali pihenőjéből.
Father Wolf woke up from his day’s rest.
Megvakarta magát, és ásított egyet.
He scratched himself and yawned.
Aztán egymás után kinyújtotta a mancsait, hogy felébressze őket.
Then he stretched out his paws, one after another, to wake them up.
Farkas Anyó a nagy, szürke orrát a négy kölyke fölé fektetve feküdt.
Mother Wolf lay with her big gray nose across her four cubs.
A kölykök hemperegtek és visítoztak.
The cubs were tumbling about and squealing.
A hold beragyogott a barlang szájába, ahol mindannyian laktak.
The moon shone into the mouth of the cave where they all lived.
