About this book
On a gray Kansas prairie where the earth is cracked and colorless and even the little house stands paint-blistered and alone, a farm girl named Dorothy finds her only brightness in the laughter she shares with Toto, her small black dog. Then a cyclone lifts the whole house whirling into the sky and carries it far from everything she knows. When it comes to rest, it lands in a country of lush greensward and fruit-laden trees, of brilliant birds and gorgeous flowers — the land of Oz, home to witches and wizards and a road of yellow brick that leads to a city built of emeralds.

Dorothy lived in the middle of the big Kansas prairies.
She lived with Uncle Henry, who was a farmer, and Aunt Em, his wife.
Su casa era pequeña.
Their house was small.
This was because the wood to build it had to travel many miles by wagon.
The house had four walls, a floor, and a roof, and these made just one room.
Inside this room there was an old, rusty cookstove.
There was also a cupboard for dishes, a table, three or four chairs, and the beds.
