About this book

On a gray Kansas prairie where the earth is cracked and colorless and even the little house stands paint-blistered and alone, a farm girl named Dorothy finds her only brightness in the laughter she shares with Toto, her small black dog. Then a cyclone lifts the whole house whirling into the sky and carries it far from everything she knows. When it comes to rest, it lands in a country of lush greensward and fruit-laden trees, of brilliant birds and gorgeous flowers — the land of Oz, home to witches and wizards and a road of yellow brick that leads to a city built of emeralds.
