About this book
A small girl in too many layers of clothing climbs a mountain path with her aunt, and somewhere along the way she sheds the lot, catching up to the goats and the goatherd boy in nothing but her petticoat. This is Heidi, orphaned and about to be left with a grandfather the whole village fears — the gruff Alm-Uncle, who lives alone among three shaggy fir trees on a sunlit rock above the valley. He drives the aunt off with hard words. And then, against all expectation, he makes the child a bed of sweet-smelling hay and checks on her through a stormy night.

Małe, stare miasteczko Mayenfeld leży w pięknym miejscu.
The small old town of Mayenfeld is in a lovely spot.
Z miasteczka prowadzi ścieżka przez zielone tereny i lasy.
From the town, a footpath goes through green, wooded land.
Ta ścieżka prowadzi do wysokich gór, które stoją wysoko nad doliną.
This path leads to the bottom of the tall mountains that look down over the valley.
Tam ścieżka zaczyna iść stromo w górę, w Alpy.
There, the path starts to climb steeply up into the Alps.
W tym miejscu ładnie pachnie górska trawa i zioła, a ten zapach wita każdego, kto tu idzie.
At that point, the sweet smell of the mountain grass and herbs greets every traveler.
Pewnego słonecznego, jasnego poranka w czerwcu wysoka, silna młoda kobieta z gór wspinała się wąską ścieżką.
One bright sunny morning in June, a tall, strong young woman from the mountains climbed up the narrow path.
Prowadziła małą dziewczynkę za rękę.
She was leading a little girl by the hand.
