About this book
A rare Icelandic manuscript falls open in a mineral-crammed Hamburg study, and an old parchment covered in Runic characters slips out. Professor Otto Liedenbrock, irascible, brilliant, impossible to reason with, cannot rest until he has cracked it. He locks the household in, forgets to eat, and forgets to feed his nephew Axel too, until hunger and accident together shake loose the cipher's secret. What it reveals is an invitation from a sixteenth-century savant: descend into the crater of Snæfells, and "you will attain the centre of the earth."
