About this book
On a snowy afternoon, a girl named Alice sits by the fire with her kittens and wonders aloud about the room she can see in the mirror over the mantel. Then the glass softens to a bright silvery mist, and she climbs through into it. On the other side the fire is real, the clock wears a grinning face, and the chessmen walk about on their own errands. This is Lewis Carroll's looking-glass world, where a whole country is laid out in squares like a great chessboard, and a girl who begins as a pawn sets out to become a queen.

Une chose était sûre.
One thing was certain.
Le chaton blanc n’y était pour rien.
The white kitten had nothing to do with it.
C’était entièrement la faute du chaton noir.
It was all the black kitten’s fault.
Le vieux chat lavait le visage du chaton blanc depuis un quart d’heure.
The old cat was washing the white kitten’s face for the last fifteen minutes.
Il était très patient.
It was very patient.
Il n’a donc posé aucun problème.
So it did not cause any trouble.
Voici comment Dinah lavait le visage de ses chatons.
This is how Dinah washed her kittens' faces.
